The "Sign the Declaration" activity will be available at the Encampment Store inside the Visitor Center at Valley Forge from 9 AM to 5 PM. Readings of the Declaration of Independence are scheduled at 10 AM, 11:05 AM, 1:05 PM, and 3:05 PM. See details below.

Special programming to commemorate the 247th anniversary of American Independence Day.
Please Note: All outdoor activities are subject to cancellation in the case of inclement weather.

Sign the Declaration — 9 AM to 5 PM (at the Encampment Store)

Stop by the Encampment Store in the Visitor Center at Valley Forge to practice your calligraphy skills and add your signature to the Declaration of Independence.

Benjamin Franklin Reads the Declaration of Independence — 10 AM to 10:45 AM
(at the Mini Grand Parade behind the Visitor Center at Valley Forge)

Benjamin Franklin will read the full text of the Declaration of Independence (25 minutes).
Join a park ranger after the reading to discuss the significance of the document in 1776, and how the Continental Army was faring two years later after marching away from their transformational winter at Valley Forge.

“There is a Declaration Coming out of Philadelphia” and Musket Salute
11:05 AM, 1:05 PM, and 3:05 PM (at Muhlenberg's Brigade)

On three occasions throughout the day, Benjamin Franklin will read a brief section from the Declaration of Independence, and a ranger in 18th century clothing will demonstrate a black powder musket firing at the firing range behind the soldier huts.
