Description
Visit Valley Forge National Historical Park on Sunday, June 19, 2022 to commmorate the day that the Continental Army marched out of Valley Forge after their six-month winter encampment, on June 19, 1778.
Special activities and programs will take place throughout the park from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Activities at the Visitor Center
What's in a Day Activity -- 9 AM to 5 PM
Travel around the park to discover the story of a real person who was at the Valley Forge encampment. After you’ve found clues about your person, return to the visitor center to show your work to a park ranger and earn a special March-Out Junior Ranger badge!
Special Exhibit Display (located on the upper floor) -- 9 AM to 5 PM
A Global Conflict: How Colonialism made the American Revolution a World War
Learn where and how France, Spain, the Netherlands, and the Kingdom of Mysore in India fought against Great Britain during the American Revolution. The display features more than 40 present-day flags representing locations around the world where, from 1776 to 1784, battles were fought against the British outside the territory of the original 13 states.
Activities at Muhlenberg's Brigade
Any Day Now -- 10 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM
Join a ranger dressed in 18th century clothing and learn about the experiences of common soldiers as they prepared to leave the Valley Forge encampment in late spring of 1778.
Activities at Washington's Headquarters
Civilian Life After the Encampment -- 10 AM to 4 PM
Learn about the experiences of the civilians and women who supported the Continental Army, and how the lives of the local residents of Valley Forge slowly returned to normal after the army left.
Activities at Artillery Park
Ned Hector and the History of Black Soldiers in the Revolutionary War -- 10 AM to 12 PM and 1 PM to 4 PM
Join reenactor Noah Lewis to learn about the contributions and sacrifices of Black soldiers in the
American Revolutionary War. Noah Lewis is an expert on the history and life of Ned Hector, an 18th century Black teamster and artilleryman local to the Valley Forge area.
Activities at von Steuben Statue
In Their Own Words -- 10 AM to 4 PM
Join a ranger to learn about the experiences and feelings of soldiers during the Valley Forge
encampment through their actual written letters and diaries. Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on how they might have felt if they were camped with the army at Valley Forge.
