Park Day 2019 at Battery Kemble Park
Register with the Civil War Defenses of Washington
In partnership with the American Battlefield Trust, formerly the Civil War Trust, the Civil War Defenses of Washington will once again be hosting Park Day, an annual hands-on preservation event to help Civil War battlefields and historic sites take on maintenance projects large and small.
We have selected Battery Kemble for Park Day 2019. Remnants of the two-gun battery remain in fair condition. Volunteers, with the guidance of National Park Service staff, will remove invasive plant species from the earthworks.
Our aim is to provide visitors will a better visual of the two-gun battery that overlooked Chain Bridge across the Potomac River.
Tools, including gloves and clippers, and water will be provided. Volunteers will receive a free Park Day t-shirt, compliments of the American Battlefield Trust.
Volunteers should wear work boots, pants, and long-sleeve shirts. Sun block is also recommended.
In case of inclement weather, a "Rain Date" is scheduled for April 27, 2019.
