Description

The Lower Walpack Cemetery is the final resting place of many frontiersmen who settled in Walpack nearly 300 years ago when it was a British colony and an untamed wilderness. On Sunday, July 17th, the Walpack Historical Society will be sponsoring an event to take place at this ancient cemetery. We hope you will be able to join us while Sharon Spangenberg shares her research on the fascinating history of one of the oldest cemeteries in Sussex County where 13 military veterans are buried. You will also hear about some of those who traveled to this area from Esopus (now Kingston), New York as early as 1725 as well as when the property was acquired by the Rosenkrans family.

The presentation will take place promptly at 1:00 pm. Bring a lawn chair. Feel free to arrive early and enjoy the beauty and peacefulness of this hidden and well-kept acre where our forefathers are buried. Please know in advance that there are no public restrooms – the closest facilities being 3 miles away, at either Millbrook Village on Old Mine Road/Flatbrookville-Millbrook Road or in the Blue Mountain Lakes parking on Flatbrookville-Stillwater Road.
