Description
Come join the Shafter Golden Dancers, in partnership with the W.C. Walker Senior Center and Shafter Recreation and Parks District, for a dance performance in the memorial garden of César E. Chávez National Monument. The dancers will perform "La Danza de los Viejitos", a traditional dance from the Mexican State of Michoacán.
The majority of these older adults were farm workers who in their youth were aware of the struggle of Cesar Chavez. Some of these dancers met Cesar personally and remember him as a very kind and generous person. The dance represents older people dancing with joy, strength and enthusiasm, who despite their age and physical limitations dance for 30 minutes without resting.
Venga a ver a los Shafter Golden Dancers, en asociación con el Centro para Personas Mayores W.C. Walker y el Distrito de Recreación y Parques de Shafter, para una presentación de baile en el jardín conmemorativo del Monumento Nacional César E. Chávez. Los bailadores interpretarán "La Danza de los Viejitos", una danza tradicional del estado mexicano de Michoacán.
La mayoría de estos adultos mayores eran campesinos que en su juventud conocían la lucha de César Chávez. Algunos de estos bailadores conocieron personalmente a César y lo recuerdan como una persona muy amable y generosa. La danza representa a personas mayores bailando con alegría, fuerza y entusiasmo, que a pesar de su edad y limitaciones físicas bailan durante 30 minutos sin descansar.
