Description

Join Ranger Brendan for a book discussion of Longstreet: The Confederate General Who Defied The South at the Beaufort Branch Library on November 19th at 2PM.

James Longstreet was Robert E. Lee's "Old War Horse," serving in the Confederate Army during the Civil War's most important battles, from Bull Run to Appomattox. Unlike most ex-Confederates, Longstreet embraced Reconstruction. He became a Republican, advocated for Black voting rights, and even led an interracial militia unit against the White League in New Orleans. Because of his post-Civil War career, he was reviled by proponents of the Lost Cause and little memorialized in the South.
