The CCC comes to Hopewell Furnace to commemorate Veteran's Day!

Join us as the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) sets up camp for the day. From 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, volunteer reenactors portraying CCC enlistees will offer programs and demonstrations. These programs will highlight the role the CCC played in restoring Hopewell Furnace as well as the organization’s impact on the entire country during the Great Depression. Visitors will be able to witness woodcutting, a historic cookstove, an original CCC truck, and see one of our historic structures converted into makeshift barracks!

You will also be able to see World War I era equipment as we commemorate Veteran's Day. Learn how the CCC at Hopewell Furnace, all veterans of World War I, transitioned from the front lines of Europe to the wilderness of southeastern Pennsylvania.

At 11:00 am, 1:00pm, and 3:00 pm, join a ranger for a guided tour of the furnace complex that brings history to life through the voices of the CCC men who worked here. Using their own newsletters, you’ll gain a unique perspective on the challenges, triumphs, and emotions they experienced.

Come early to watch a flag raising ceremony at 9:00 am

Don’t forget to ask about the CCC Junior Ranger Book!

Event may be modified or cancelled in the case of inclement weather.
