Description

Join us for a guided bat walk, short nocturnal animal talk, and film screening of Bat Boy (2023). Filmmaker Aaron Lemle and UCLA postdoctoral fellow Joseph Nikko Curti, Ph.D., will be in attendance to answer questions.

Dr. Curti’s research focuses on how urban stressors like light and sound pollution impact bat communities across California. Using drones equipped with sensors and microphones, he studies pollution shifts in Los Angeles and how bats respond at different altitudes. His work aims to determine whether certain bat species' traits influence their adaptability to urban pollution.
Dr. Curti earned his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from UCLA in 2024, collaborating with resource managers on conservation genomics projects, including studies on California quail gene flow and the landscape genomics of Yuma myotis bats. As a La Kretz Postdoctoral Fellow, he continues to work with local agencies to apply his research to conservation policy in Los Angeles.

Join us for a special event happening 3/28 and 3/29. This event does not repeat outside of these dates.
