Big Spring is located approximately 4 miles south of the town of Van Buren, Missouri on MO State Highway 103. To reach Big Spring, turn south on Highway 103 from Highway 60 in Van Buren. Proceed 4 miles, then turn left into the parking area after crossing the bridge over the spring branch.

Description

Join rangers and members of DarkSky Missouri for a special Dark Sky Festival! This two-day event takes place at Big Spring, one of the darkest locations in the Midwest. Festivities begin on Friday at 4:00 pm, and activities will run late into Saturday night-Sunday morning.

Saturday Activities:

9:00 AM - 11:00 AM - Nature/Bird Walk with naturalists from Missouri Department of Conservation and Audubon Society! Rest of morning free to float, fish, hike, and explore.
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM - River Safety and Dry Land Basics Hosted by the Ozark Riverways Foundation, this practical program dives into the do’s and don’ts of safe river recreation -- on the water and on dry land.
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Tables and booths are set up and active. Speakers/presenters offer hourly programs throughout the afternoon.
7:00 PM - Formal “Star Party” begins with an introduction to stars/constellations likely to be seen. Star Party lasts until 11 pm but can extend later if wanted.
