“Wild Magnolias” featuring Chief Bo Dollis, Jr. is a short documentary that will be followed by an audience interactive discussion with Chief Dollis. Alexandra Kern, the filmmaker, will also be in attendance.
“Wild Magnolias” follows Chief Bo Dollis Jr. teaching his proteges, Corey and Alvon, the virtues of being a Mardi Gras Indian, a subculture in New Orleans that instills pride, patience, and humility through the detailed craft of stitching and sewing. This is a film about the process, what happens all the way up to the presentation of the suit, and how the practice is a one-of-a-kind creative and cultural outlet for the younger generation involved.
This program takes place inside our third-floor Performance Center of the New Orleans Jazz Museum, 400 Esplanade Ave. Admission is free and open to the public, seating is limited and offered first come, first serve.
