Description

Join us for a unique aquatic adventure designed to connect you with the incredible biodiversity thriving beneath the surface of Northern California's wild and scenic Smith River. This free, ranger-guided program offers a rare opportunity to experience the river from a new perspective."

Program Details:

  • Time: Program begins promptly at 12:30 PM
  • Meeting Location: Designated Day Use Area at Jedediah Smith Campground
  • Activity Level: Moderate (includes hiking, paddling, and swimming)
  • Duration: Approximately 2.5 - 3 hours (including hike, paddle, and snorkel time)

Our adventure begins at the Day Use Area, where you'll meet our interpretive park rangers. We'll then embark on a scenic 0.5-mile hike to a tranquil boat launch point. From there, we'll transition into kayaks and paddle out to a prime snorkeling location on the crystal-clear Smith River.

Once at our snorkel site, you'll have approximately one hour to immerse yourself in the cool, refreshing water. Keep an eye out for native fish species, aquatic insects, and fascinating riverbed formations. Your rangers will be on hand to point out interesting features and answer your questions about this incredible ecosystem. After our underwater exploration, we'll paddle our kayaks back to the Day Use Area, concluding our journey.
