Light emanates from a short, white lighthouse in front of a dusky, sunset oceanscape.

National Lighthouse Day 2026

Point Reyes National Seashore

Special Event
  • Aug 7, 2026 at 7:30 PM
  • Free

Experience the historic Point Reyes Lighthouse as it appeared a century ago. On this special evening, Point Reyes National Seashore will illuminate and rotate the 156-year old Fresnel lens, giving visitors a rare opportunity to witness history in motion. The Lighthouse Visitor Center will be open with exhibits, retail offerings, and light refreshments for sale.

Throughout the evening, staff will be available to answer questions, share the history of the lighthouse, and provide interpretive programs for visitors of all ages.

Important Event Information:

  • Carpooling is encouraged, as parking is very limited and may fill early—please plan to arrive ahead of time. The Drakes Beach and South Beach parking lots are great options to carpool from.
  • ADA parking is limited. If you anticipate needing an ADA space, please contact the park in advance to discuss availability.
  • Bring a flashlight or headlamp; red‑light options are preferred to reduce night‑vision disruption.
  • Access to the lighthouse requires a 0.4‑mile walk from the parking lot along a dimly lit pathway and the descent to the lighthouse involves 313 stairs. The lighthouse is also visible from the Observation Deck at the top of the stairs for those who do not wish to descend.
  • If wind speeds reach unsafe levels, the stairs will close but the Observation Deck will remain open.
  • Weather is frequently windy and cold. Please bring warm layers, sturdy shoes, and snacks.
  • Restrooms are available near the Lighthouse Visitor Center and the parking area.
