Description

Join Rock Creek Conservancy and Rock Creek Park as we host a virtual conversation at the intersection of race, history, and Rock Creek Park. Celebrate Women’s History Month by exploring the history - and future - of women who have shaped Rock Creek. Former superintendent Georgia Ellard will return to speak to the role of women in park management; Springsong museum director Rebecca Henson will share how author and biologist Rachel Carson shapes our understanding of Rock Creek Park’s environment; Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy leader Lindsey Milstein will share the pioneering role of landscape architect Beatrix Farrand, and Friends of Peirce Mill executive director Angela Kramer will share the challenges Hattie Sewall faced as a business woman in Rock Creek Park. Together we’ll remember other notables such as Joan of Arc, whose statue is in Meridian Hill/Malcolm X Park, and imagine a future with strong women leading Rock Creek.
