Hands-on Molding and Casting Program

Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site

  • Every week on Sunday, Friday, and Saturday at 11:00 AM from May 24, 2024 to September 01, 2024
  • Free

Historically, the casting of iron products was an exact craft, and the moulders who practiced it were among the highest paid of ironworkers. It took years to gain the necessary skills, and the craft was often passed from father to son.

This program allows you to try your hand as a Hopewell Moulder. Rangers walk visitors through the hands on process of making their own sand mold, and "casting" molds with plaster. Visitors will leave this experience with a better understanding of the craft of the moulder, and how they contributed to the furnace operation.

Program takes about 45 minutes. Free and family friendly.

Please call the Visitor Centar at 610-582-8773 if you have a group over six people.
