Join Joshua Tree National Park’s current Artist in Residence, Mollie Doctrow, for a free program. Learn about the tools, and her carving and printing process. Visitors will use one of her small carved blocks to create a unique print.

About the Artist: Mollie Doctrow, MA, is Curator Emerita at South Florida State College Museum of Florida Art & Culture. She is the recipient of numerous awards and grants and her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Art residencies at several US National Parks have provided Doctrow access to remote and pristine areas giving inspiration to her woodcuts. Her studio is located at Studio Channel Islands, Camarillo, CA.

About the Art: Slogging through swamps, wading through weeds, and getting off the beaten path, Doctrow sketches native habitats and makes environmental woodcuts. Through this artwork she connects to the natural world and hopes to bring attention to these fragile environments. Beginning with field sketches, she transfers the drawings to woodblocks and completes the final image with carving. The carved blocks are hand printed in her studio on an etching press.
