Description
The National Park Service at Camp Nelson National Monument invites you to join us for Park Day on Saturday, April 9th, 2022!
Since 1996, the American Battlefield Trust has sponsored Park Day as an annual preservation event for Civil War and Revolutionary War sites throughout the country. Park staff and volunteers work together on much-needed maintenance and preservation projects. During Park Day 2021, volunteers at Camp Nelson cleared out a large tobacco barn of trash and debris on the Brumfield Farm.
We are calling all volunteers to join us on April 9th, 2022 from 9:30am – 12:30pm to help at this year’s Park Day event! We are planning to relocate and rebuild the split-rail fence that runs through the park, just behind the visitor center. This project will involve lifting heavy materials, digging into the ground to place supports, and carrying split rails a few hundred feet across uneven ground.
Participants should meet at the Visitor Center and wear work clothes, sturdy shoes, and bring a pair of work gloves! All other tools will be provided, and all participants will receive a free water bottle from the American Battlefield Trust!
