Description

Join us in January to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day a "day on" not a day off. We'll be celebrating the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy all weekend with volunteer projects from Friday, January 12th - Monday, January 15th. From park maintenance to habitat restoration, there is something for everyone. Bring yourself, your friends, and your family and take part in your community on this weekend-long National Day of Service! Event registration is required.

Where: Project locations vary throughout the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). Only sites near or in Muir Woods are listed here; click the registration link (below) for more information about activities in San Francisco. 

Saturday, January 13th

  • 10 am– 1 pm, Monarch Enhancement Planting (Marin) – Register Here 
    Help plant the Monarch's host plant and nectar plants to provide food for the Monarch throughout its life stages. In partnership with One Tam and Marin County Parks. 

Sunday, January 14th 

  • 9:30 am–2:30pm, Habitat Restoration Tennessee Valley (Marin) – Registration coming soon! 
    Restore and protect Tennessee Valley’s native plant communities, which support native wildlife, climate resiliency, and a sense of place on the Bay Area’s rugged coast. 

  • 9:30 am–2:30pm, Habitat Restoration Dipsea Trail (Marin) – Registration coming soon! 
    Protect native plants and improve habitat surrounding the historic  Dipsea Trail near Stinson beach. Work will focus planting native species on this gentle hill slope and pulling invasive species. 

Monday, January 15th 

  • 9 am–Noon, Muir Woods Maintenance (Marin) – Register Here
    Help prolong the life of the Muir Woods boardwalk by giving it a good "floss" to remove dirt and debris during this family-friendly project.

Groups of five or more require special arrangements and must be confirmed in advance. Please review the List of Available Projects and fill out the Group Project Request Form.
