Description

Please join local, state, and federal agencies to celebrate the restoration of Soda Butte Creek. After a decade of mine reclamation, Soda Butte Creek is delisted, clean, and healthy again. The event includes a tour of the McLaren mine site in Cooke City, MT at 3:00 p.m. At 5:00 p.m., the Beartooth Alliance is hosting a BBQ dinner at the Range Rider Lodge in Silver Gate, MT.  The event is also a memorial for the late Tom Henderson, who worked tirelessly to clean up Soda Butte Creek.

The event is a partnership between Montana and Wyoming Departments of Environmental Quality; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement; the US Forest Service; Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks; the National Park Service; and the Beartooth Alliance.

WHERE: Large turnout, near the reclaimed McLaren mine site, on the right side of HWY 212, less than a quarter mile east of Cooke City. Limited parking is available in the turnout. Participants are encouraged to park in Cooke City and either carpool or walk the short distance to the event.  See map below in Image Gallery.
