The Zimmerman Center for Heritage, operated by the Susquehanna National Heritage Area, welcomes visitors to experience the rich history, culture, and landscapes of the lower Susquehanna River. As a Chesapeake Gateways Network Site, the Center also serves as a visitor contact station for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail and provides dynamic interpretation of the river’s cultural and natural heritage.

Visitors can explore the 18th-century historic house, hike to Native Lands County Park and the Mason-Dixon Trail, view the Visions of the Susquehanna River Art Collection, and discover the powerful story of the Susquehannock people in the dedicated Susquehannock Gallery. Seasonal River Discovery Boat Tours aboard a historic electric vessel offer a unique way to experience the river’s beauty and significance.

The Zimmerman Center’s programs highlight critical moments in American history, including Native American life, the early colonial period, Cresap’s War, and the Revolutionary era. Interpretation thoughtfully includes the often-overlooked history of slavery in Pennsylvania, ensuring a full and inclusive exploration of the region’s past.

Through trails, exhibits, art, and river experiences, the Zimmerman Center connects visitors to the stories that have shaped the Chesapeake Bay watershed and our national heritage. Learn more about planning your visit by exploring the Zimmerman Center’s website.
