A historic tree planted by John Quincy Adams and Louisa Catherine Adams
The yellowwood tree (Cladristis kentukea) is attributed to Louisa Catherine (1775-1852) and John Quincy Adams (1767-1848). It was planted circa 1830. Yellowwoods are not native to Massachusetts. The yellowwood, acquired in Washington, D.C., blooms in springtime, although blooms are more abundant in some years versus others.
