John Pershing's quote expresses his thanks to the American Expeditionary Forces. These soldiers joined the fight in 1918, much later than expected, as many needed military training. In spite of this fact, the American Expeditionary Force would expand to more than 2 million soldiers by the end of the conflict.They were instrumental in helping the French in the Aisne Offensive and Meuse-Argonne Offensive.
