While the Limberlost Trail is a gentle, accessible hike among many more grueling treks in Shenandoah National Park, it does cross over several other trails to be wary of. The Whiteoak Trail is one of these popular hikes that leads to a series of several waterfalls including the second tallest waterfall in the Park, Upper Whiteoak Falls, which tumbles an astonishing 86 feet down. However, the trail is strenuous and requires proper planning.
Even at its shortest, the Whiteoak Trail out-and-back to the Upper Falls still covers a total distance of 4.6 miles and over 1,000 feet of rocky elevation. While hiking the Limberlost Trail, follow the sign directions, be aware of the several junctions, and know where you are.
