Monument Description

This monument, donated by the Valley Forge Park Commission under the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 1908, marks the location of the encampment of Weedon's Brigade. Fourteen complete Virginia Regiments wintered at Valley Forge with more units arriving early in 1778. General George Weedon of Virginia commanded five of these regiments. His orderly book, a record of the orders issued during parts of the Philadelphia Campaign and the Valley Forge ecnampment, provides detailed insight into the activities and conditions of the Army as it endured privations and worked to function as a single fighting force.
