The water pump is a reproduction of the original installed in the early 1700s at the location of the well. It would have been surrounded by buildings to support the farm. In the 1850s, Charles Francis Adams brought running water into the house, replacing the well and pump. Only 3.68 acres remain of the 75 acre farm at Peace field.
