Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

A sector of the battlefield that witnessed unparalleled slaughter during the first day of battle, troops were again heavily engaged here during the afternoon of April 7. The desperate assaults that General P.G.T. Beauregard hurled through this wet weather pond on April 7 failed to halt the stronger Union counteroffensive. With chances for victory gone, Beauregard withdrew his army to Corinth.
