After the feint did not work, the army still pushed on. This included Knowlton's Rangers and other parts of the main body of Washington's Army and the light infantry. The battle took place at 1:00 p.m. and lasted over two hours.
Both armies would have been in a buckwheat field in front of Nicholas Jones’ farm on 115th Street. On his property the fighting would commence, and the Americans would end up pushing the British Army. This is probably the first time during the American Revolution that George Washington's Army stood up to the British Army.
