Nestled within a pinion juniper forest, the Walnut Canyon Picnic Area allows time for quiet contemplation, or to enjoy a meal. With eight picnic tables, visitors can cool down in the shade during a warm summer day or find a sunny spot during the cooler winter months.
The Walnut Canyon picnic area is located 450 feet from the visitor center. To get to the picnic area, start at the front of the small stone building across the parking lot from the visitor center. Follow the diagonal path from the front of the stone building (going away from the visitor center) 300 feet to the picnic area. The picnic area surface is made of crushed stones, and does not meet ADA accessibility standards.
There is one additional accessible picnic table that is located along the Rim Trail. To access this picnic table, start at the Rim Trail trailhead closest to the visitor center front doors. The picnic table is 150 feet down the Rim Trail on the left.
The use of stoves and barbecues that use liquid or gaseous fuels are permitted in the designated picnic areas.
Restrooms are located at the visitor center. Trash and recycling cans are located on site.
Keep wildlife wild! Please secure your food and clean up after your picnic so that the park’s wildlife doesn’t become reliant on human food.
