Welcome to the Volcanoes Day Use Area at Petroglyph National Monument. This trail system has multiple segments. Hikes can range from as short as 1 mile roundtrip or up to 6miles. Please make sure you have planned for and are prepared to hike the sections of the trail you choose to experience today. The audio tour has stops on all segments of the trail, but you do not need to hike every section to enjoy the entire audio tour.

Before we start on our tour today, we would like to take a moment to acknowledge that the Volcanoes, as well as the rest of the 7,220 acres of Petroglyph National Monument, are part of a living cultural landscape and are sacred to 29 tribes and pueblos throughout the region. Please treat the area and our indigenous partners with respect by staying on trail, keeping pets on leash and cleaning up after them, and following the principles of Leave No Trace.

Continue listening to the audio tour to learn more about the geology, ecology, history, and cultural significance of this landscape.

Follow the trail another 0.34 mi or 0.55 km to reach Audio Tour Stop 2.
