Drive to the top of an extinct cinder cone volcano! The views of the western part of the Raton-Clayton Volcanic Field and the crater of Capulin Volcano are spectacular.

If you would like to do some hiking, two trails leave from this parking area though watch out for lightning as the parking area closes whenever a thunderstorm comes within 10 miles. The Crater Rim Trail is a one mile loop that follows the rim of the crater and provides great views of the surrounding landscape. The Crater Vent Trail is a quarter mile walk into the bottom of the crater at Capulin Volcano.
