The island of Saipan had a large civilian population that not only included the indigenous Chamorros and Carolinians, but thousands of Japanese, Koreans and Okinawans who lived on the island. During the Battle of Saipan, and the weeks that followed, thousands of survivors were brought to internment camps. Visit this site where the two internment camps, Camp Susupe and Camp Chalan Kanoa, were located to learn more.
