The Post‑Colonial Tufa House stands atop the remains of earlier mission apartments, built with rubble from Spanish Colonial structures and blocks of local tufaceous limestone. Although its exact builder is unknown, research suggests it was constructed sometime after the 1826 secularization of Mission San Juan and likely before 1850. Today, visitors can step inside to view a small exhibit that highlights the mission community and its enduring history.
