This stop is the location of the first shots of the Battle of Mill Springs. Having left their encampment at midnight and marched over 10 miles the morning of January 19, 1862, Confederate forces were hoping to surprise the Federal troops camped in and around Logan's Crossroads. Instead, a Confederate cavalry advance met with Federal pickets here at Timmy's Branch around 6:00 AM that morning. Once they began firing, all hope of surprising the larger Federal force further north was lost.
