19th Century History Down the Road from White Haven

The Thomas Sappington House Museum is located roughly 2.5 miles north of Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site. The Sappingtons were a large, prosperous family in St. Louis throughout most of the 19th century. The Grant and Dent families were well-acquainted with the Sappingtons, and Ulysses S. Grant sometimes hired Sebastian Sappington to assist with legal matters pertaining to White Haven during and after the American Civil War. The historic Sappington home was built nearly 200 years ago and is open for guided tours on select days of the week. The site also features "The Barn," a farm-to-table restaruant that serves breakfast and lunch.

Visit the Thomas Sappington House Museum website.
