Ch´eix´
Thimbleberry

The velvety-textured berry of ch’eix’ feels strange on the tongue of the uninitiated, but the Huna Tlingit relish the flavor of this thimble-shaped berry when it ripens in August. Wild berries added natural sweetness to the Tlingit diet centuries before the arrival of processed sugar.
