The Texas Monument is dedicated to the Texans that fought here at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain. There were roughly 8 regiments that fought in this general area. This particular part of the Confederate defensive line was particularly well fortified and extremely difficult for the Union to penetrate. Private W.T. Barnes of the 1st Arkansas Infantry regiment writes "We had cut down and placed in our front hundreds of black jack saplings as abattis, cutting off the tips of the limbs with our jackknives and whittling them so shapr and close it would have been an uphill business for a rabbit to creep through"
