The Officers and Civilians Rooms of Fort Clatsop
Accessible Rooms, Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Wheelchair Accessible
According to the floorplans of Fort Clatsop, the rooms for officers and civilians are on the right side after entering the main gate.
The first room on the right belonged to the civilian interpreter Toussaint Charbonneau and his Wife Sacagawea as well as their son, who turns one year old here, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau. The room to its left was the captains quarters for Lewis and Clark. The third room down was known as the Orderly Room and may have been for the three sergents and perhaps the other civilian Geourge Droulliard. It is unknown if Captain Clark's enslaved man, York, would have stayed in the captains or sergeants room. The final room on this side was the storage room for meat, tools, trade goods, and the few other supplies they had left. It was the duty of the sergeants to ensure no one got into the storage room or bothered the captains without due reason.
