Travel back to the early 1900's and view the oldest house in Potter County. The McBride House has a total or 648 square ft. and was built in 1903 using dolomite, lime mortar, and wood used from railroad timbers.

The homestead was bought for three dollars an acre and was owned by the McBride family. They developed their own cattle herd and engaged in drilling water wells for the business. David McBride died June 26, 1928, in Needles, Calif. The heirs sold this property in 1963 to the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority. It is now administered by the National Park Service, Sanford Recreation Area, Lake Meredith. (1971)

The McBride House represents the early-ranching era in the Texas Panhandle. It is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a Texas Historic Site.
