In the 1920s, John Graham has a thriving mercantile business located to the southside of the Plains Pharmacy Building. Mr. Graham was a gentleman of African American descent who held a high reputation in Plains. School children would stop by after school and Mr. Graham would give them a drink of water. Raisin and blueberry pies were made by Mrs. Graham and sold for ten cents each in the Graham store. The local children knew the exact time she would take them from the oven and carry them to the store.
