The belvedere, or lookout, holds stories that honor the different struggles, and ultimate triumphs, that marginalized groups faced during World War I. These stories highlight how black soldiers and servicewomen found their places within this bloody war, serving with honor and distinction. This unique area also put into perspective that this war, WWI, was a war of cruel innovation, highlighting the new use of tanks, poison gas and aerial warfare.
