Superintendent's Lodge

Historical black and white photo of cemetery lodge at gated entrance of cemetery.
The Superintendent's Lodge, as it looked in 1906, housed the US veteran who managed the cemetery.

This building is not open to the public.

Within the National Cemetery system, certain features became standardized. One of those was the superintendents’ lodges. These buildings all replicate a style known as the “federal style” that mirrored the design of the War Department building in Washington, D.C. In later years, cemetery superintendents placed plaques featuring the Gettysburg Address on their quarters. You can still see that plaque at the Superintendent's Lodge in the Fredericksburg National Cemetery today.
