While the cabin district is popular with visitors and fans of the television show Longmire, few are aware of the human history before the 20^th century. In the Towa language, it is called “place of the willows” and was a key site to procure medicinal plants. Hear Chris Toya and Mark Magdalena talk about the importance of this area and all of Valles Caldera for acquiring plants used to improve the body, help the mind, and even go faster in running, an important sport in Hemish culture.
