St. John’s College is the third oldest college in the United States, established in 1696 as King William’s School. The State of Maryland chartered St. John’s College in 1784. One notable graduate includes Francis Scott Key, author of our national anthem, and during the Civil War, the campus became the site of a war hospital. Today, St. John’s educates students through a literary and discussion-focused liberal arts curriculum.
