The St. Clement’s Island Museum sits along the Potomac River in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, and explores Maryland’s early colonial history. The museum interprets the history of St. Clement’s Island, the first English settlement in Maryland, as well as the Ark and the Dove, the ships that carried the colonizers. The island itself is in the Potomac River and is only accessible by boat or ferry from the museum.

The museum features exhibits and brochures that detail the English history that preceded the voyage to Maryland, details the religious and political issues of the 16th and 17th centuries and the treacherous crossing of the ships across the Atlantic Ocean. The museum also interprets the history & heritage of local watermen and the nearby Blackistone Lighthouse.
