Discover South Cove

At Pearce Ferry the Colorado River exits the Grand Canyon and enters Lake Mead. Located on the eastern edge of the park near a Joshua tree forest, the South Cove area of Lake Mead is one of the park's least visited getaways.

Boating

While the concrete boat launch is closed due to low water levels, primitive gravel launching is available off the newly constructed 0.5 mile gravel road that leads off from the concrete launch ramp. Four-wheel-drive is recommended and use at your own risk.

The launch at Temple Bar is the nearest alternate launch location onto Lake Mead. It is not paved but the park installed a sturdy mobile mat material on hardpacked gravel for better traction when launching.

The boat ramp at Pearce Ferry is for Grand Canyon river trip takeouts only. Launching watercraft is not allowed at Pearce Ferry.

Nearby Attractions

Pearce Ferry is about 17 miles upstream from South Cove. Although you can't access it from South Cove by boat due to impassible rapids, you can travel to it by car. Lake Mead National Recreation Area borders Grand Canyon National Park here.

Meadview is a small town about 10 miles from South Cove that offers dining, RV parking, lodging and a few stores.
