The Sioux City Public Museum is located in downtown Sioux City, Iowa and is home to a variety of historical exhibits. Originally established in 1938, the museum provides education on the history and culture of Sioux City. Prior to moving to its current modern facility in 2011, its collections were first kept at the Carnegie Library and then the impressive John Peirce Mansion.
Featuring a large collection of dynamic and interactive exhibits, the museum also houses a collection of items from the Academy of Science and Letters, which was previously known as the Sioux City Lyceum. That’s not all, of course. Visitors can also enjoy a 12-minute orientation film on the “corn palace theatre” and a hands-on replica of an active fossil dig site. Virtual tours of the museum are also available.
The Sioux City Public Museum provides free admission to its various amenities and activities. Visitors will also find a gift shop containing various souvenirs, as well as classrooms available for guest rental. Self-guided walking tours, family scavenger hunts, and other educational opportunities are also available.
