The C&O Canal aqueducts are “water bridges” that once carried canal boats over the creeks and rivers that flow into the Potomac. The Sideling Hill Creek Aqueduct, built between 1837 and 1840, is the ninth of twelve such “works of art” on the canal. The 70-foot long structure spans the Sideling Hill Creek, which marks the boundary between Washington and Allegany County.
