Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Information

After the battle, Union soldiers dug several trenches to bury the 1,728 Confederates killed in the fighting. This is one of five known to be on the battlefield. When the park was established, Shiloh veterans chose to honor and preserve the Confederate graves as important historical features of the battle and the Civil War.
