Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits

Sequoyah National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1970 as an overlay project of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Robert S. Kerr Reservoir and is designated along the Trail of Tears.

The refuge is named after Sequoyah (circa 1770-1843) the inventor of the Cherokee Syllabary or written language.
