Archeologists agree that the Timucua lived in the wooded area in the distance. The trees provided wood for fuel and shelter, while fresh water springs supplied water. 

In 1564 illustrator Jacque LeMoyne came to Florida as part of a French expedition. His vivid drawings depicting Timucuan life are our only visual record of this now-extinct cvilization that occupied much of Florida for thousands of years.
