The Sand Point shoreline is a great place to explore in winter. Sand Point Road and its parking lots are plowed all winter so regular vehicles can access the beaches and shore. Icy spray from Lake Superior turns driftwood and fallen logs into winter sculptures. Icebergs float by in Munising Bay. Winter sunsets at Sand Point are beautiful, and you will likely be the only person there. Park at the main beach area or at the end of the road.

Safety: Do not walk out onto the frozen waters of Lake Superior from the beach. Snow is usually deep enough on the beach to require snowshoes. Ice cleats may also be needed for slippery areas. Be prepared for strong winds and lake-effect snow.

Leashed pets are allowed at Sand Point. The vault toilet at the main parking lot is open year-round.
